Office Pool of 28 Claims $10,000 PowerBall® Prize $35,000 Birthday Win
A group of 28 coworkers, who call themselves "The Dream Team", claimed the $10,000 PowerBall® prize from the September 13 drawing. The coworkers come from towns all across Rhode Island and Massachusetts and have been pooling their money together for the last ten years. A Woonsocket woman leads the group by collecting everyone's money and buying the Quick Pick PowerBall® tickets from different Retailers in the area. Quickets at 285 George Washington Hwy., Smithfield, sold this winning ticket. Fortuitously, one gentleman from the group declared the week this ticket was purchased as his last week playing; but now that they won, he said he'll remain in the group.
Their ticket matched four numbers and the PowerBall® number. The standard payout for this type of win is $10,000. However, if they had opted to purchase the Power Play® feature for an additional dollar on the wager, the $10,000 prize would have been multiplied by 3, Saturday’s Power Play® number, to equal $30,000.
Saturday's estimated PowerBall® jackpot is $80 million.
William Miller Jr., Warwick, received the "Season's Greetings" Instant Ticket yesterday as a birthday present from his girlfriend and won $35,000. He called his friends and family to share the news, but they thought he was joking. He said he will use the winnings to pay bills. East Providence Mobil, 900 Wampanoag Tr., East Providence, sold the winning ticket.
