Retailer Recommendations Result in Wins
Two Instant Ticket top prizes were claimed today thanks to recommendations from the Retailers. A Warwick woman always goes to Cumberland Farms on Warwick Avenue in Warwick and asks the clerk to give her a combination of tickets. The clerk happened to give her two of the "Hot Coals Cash" Instant Tickets, along with a few others. It was on the second "Hot Coals Cash" ticket that she won $35,000! She said she will use the winnings to replace all of the windows in her house.
In addition, a $20,000 top prize on the "Lucky Times 20" game was claimed today. Candace Jenkins, of Newport, said she always buys her tickets from Wickford Mini Mart on Boston Neck Rd., Wickford, and usually plays $2 or $3 tickets. However, this time when she went to buy some tickets, the clerk told her she should give the $20 "Lucky Times 20" game a try, so she agreed, and it paid off with a $20,000 win! Jenkins said she will use the winnings to pay bills.
A North Providence woman started her day off winning $10,500 on Keno. She was on her way to work when she stopped at Sam's Food Store on Post Road in Warwick and bought an 8-spot Keno ticket for five draws. As she watched the eight numbers she always plays using birthdates appear on the monitor, she was in shock. The clerk asked if she won anything and she responded, "Yeah, I think I just won $10,500!" She came right to the Lottery to validate her ticket before she shared the news with family. She said she plans on using the money to pay for her grandson's braces.
A Providence man found his lucky numbers when he visited his wife in the hospital. He played her room number on two 4-digit straight wagers for the March 20 midday draw, which came up in the exact order he played, for a $10,000 win. Barbosa Liquors on Narragansett Boulevard in Providence sold the tickets. The winner said he's looking forward to his wife being discharged from the hospital so they can celebrate the win.
