$215,915 Wild Money Jackpot Claimed
& A $50,000 Start to the New Year for Two Lucky Rhode Islanders
Marie Leonard of Providence claimed the $215,915 Wild Money jackpot from the December 26th draw. Mrs. Leonard explained that she woke up Sunday morning, December 27th, to check the winning numbers and immediately screamed for her husband when she matched the numbers to her ticket. He ran to her, and together they confirmed that they were in fact holding the winning ticket. The couple said they are still in shock and will save the money won for now. The winning ticket was sold at Ambe Corp., 780 Hartford Ave., Johnston.
A West Warwick man claimed a $50,000 winning "$50,000 Bankroll" Instant Ticket on his birthday! He purchased the Instant Ticket at Cumberland Farms, 244 Washington St., West Warwick on New Year's Day. He said when he realized he won he was in shock for hours, especially because days prior his six-year-old daughter woke him up to tell him that she had a dream "daddy won lots of money." The man expressed how blessed he feels to be able to start the new year on such a positive note. He plans to use the money as a down payment on a house for him and his family.
A $50,000 PowerBall® ticket was sold in Rhode Island for Saturday night's drawing. The winning ticket matched four numbers and the PowerBall® number to win the new standard prize of $50,000. The winner did not add the PowerPlay® feature for an additional dollar. If the winner had played PowerPlay®, the prize would have been multiplied by 2, Saturday's PowerPlay® number, to equal $100,000. The winning ticket was sold at Cumberland Farms, 2293 New London Turnpike, Coventry, and has not yet been claimed.
Wednesday's estimated PowerBall® jackpot is $400 million! The cash option is an estimated $244.8 million. There have been 17 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner. The most recent jackpot win was on November 4, 2015, with the winning $144 million ticket sold in Tennessee. The last time the jackpot was this high was in February 2015 when it reached $564.1 million.
