Largest Jackpot in U.S History
College Student Claims $50,000 PowerBall® Ticket
Last night's PowerBall® jackpot rolled for the 19th time, increasing the jackpot amount to an estimated $700 million for Saturday's drawing. This is the largest jackpot in PowerBall® history and also the largest jackpot of any lottery game in U.S history. The cash option is an estimated $428.4 million. Tickets can be purchased up until 9:50pm Saturday night.
Though last night's PowerBall® jackpot was not hit, two winning $50,000 PowerBall® tickets were sold in Rhode Island. The winning tickets matched four numbers and the PowerBall® number to win $50,000. Stop & Shop, 1360 West Main Rd., Middletown, sold one of the winning tickets and 7-Eleven, 7330 Post Rd., North Kingstown, sold the other. Neither player added the PowerPlay® feature for an additional dollar. If they had, the prizes would have been multiplied by 3, last night's PowerPlay® number, to equal $150,000.
Austin Barry of North Kingstown claimed one of the winning $50,000 PowerBall® tickets. He is currently enrolled in college and plays for the school's baseball team. He plans to utilize the money won toward his education and for sports equipment. He purchased the winning ticket at 7-Eleven, 7330 Post Rd., North Kingstown.
The $50,000 PowerBall® ticket sold at Stop & Shop 1360 West Main Rd., Middletown remains unclaimed.
